National Mentoring Day recognizes the important work that mentors do in schools, in the workplace, and in many other environments. Oakland Serves' mentors give just 1.5 hours a week yet make a difference to many students that need help in the classroom; explaining material, focusing effort and giving confidence to those who are not connecting to school: "...worked with Yemeni students M__ and H__ on their spelling and punctuation assignments. " "...worked with three students on their final projects and walked around to be available to any other student." "The class continues to work through several topics in geometry. My focus is always to help the students who seem to be struggling the most or ones who are willing to ask for help." If you are interested in mentoring - talk to us! The need does not end.
Can't mentor? Now is the time to add your donation, no matter how small, to help us continue to recruit and place our mentors into classrooms that need them.
