Volunteer at Oakland’s High School Summer Program!
We are excited to continue our 2023 partnership with Oakland Unified School District by supporting their summer program for 10th (rising 11th) graders: the Summer HAcK (Healing and Academics for Kids). For the second summer, they are offering an intensive credit recovery program and exciting enrichment experience to OUSD’s high school students.
We are looking for mentors to support the success of the students through the unique learning experience of project-based academics.

Who:

Volunteer academic mentors who can give at least 5 hours a week during the 5-week program.

What:

Algebra 1, Biology, English 1 & 2, Geometry, World History and Phys Ed.

The entire program is project based. Community based organizations (Crucible, Art Esteem, Niroga, Zymbolic, Urban Peace Movement, Beats Rhymes & Life) have developed activities that connect each academic subject to a defined multi-week team project.

Partners and projects will focus on healing, mindfulness, self-esteem, social-emotional skills, empathy, leadership, social justice, etc.

Partners and leaders will celebrate the students achievements focusing attention on their strengths and positive development

June 5 to July 6, (holidays 6/19/ and 7/4)

9:00am to 1:30pm; includes two ~1.5 hour classes per day.

Classes needing mentors meet 4 days a week: Mo/Tu/Th/Fr.

No classes Wednesday; projects only. Attendance is optional
