Our 2024-25 Impact Report is Out!
High school students take many paths to graduation. Some routes are direct, some are torturous and backtrack at times before reaching the goal. Oakland Serves supported students on many of those paths.

So where were we in last year?
Last year we worked in Oakland High School and Castlemont HIgh School in six different math classes working with those students that had difficulty keeping up. Remnants of lost learning from the pandemic still plague high school students today. We helped students overcome losses and stay on the straightest path.
For those who are unsuccessful, OUSD's Central Academic Recovery (CAR) team provides credit recovery classes. Our mentors supported CAR at Castlemont and McClymonds High Schools during the school year and at Life Academy for CAR's Summer HAcK in English, math and history. For challenged learners, in-person credit recovery classes make a big difference. The teachers and our mentors truly engage and provide academic support not possible with online credit recovery classes. It's a real second chance for students to get back on track for graduation.
And Oakland Serves also supported Dewey Academy, an OUSD continuation school for 11th and 12th graders who were unable to succeed previously. For those students who were ready to try again, we celebrated their success on their difficult path.
In 2024-25, Oakland Serves mentors attended almost 500 class sessions to support high school students.
No matter what path a student walks to graduation, we are ready to help them get there.
